Marion C. Thornton, 83, of Cayuga, passed away at 8:30 p.m. EDT (March 31, 2019) at Harrison Crossing Health in Terre Haute. 

He was born March 18, 1936 in Fountain County, Indiana the son of the late James E. and Naomi (Ratcliff) Thornton.

He married Betty J. Blanton on May 8, 1958 in Danville. She preceded him in death on March 5, 2007.

Survivors include: One daughter: Patti (Jim) Moore of Cayuga; son: Richard (Glenda) Fout of Knoxville, TN; sister: Nora Schieman of Virginia; seven grandchildren: Misti Thornton, Nathaniel Fout, Daniel Fout, Dee Cawthon, Darin Moore, David Moore, Jeff Moore; six great-grandchildren: Tyler (Kristen Asbury) Blackburn, Dustin (Haley) Cawthon, Garreth Cawthon, Ethan Moore, Harley Moore, Sara Moore, Dylan Barrett, Mason Fout, Addison Fout, and Conner Fout; three great-great grandchildren: Emma Blackburn, Isaac Swinford, and Josie Swinford.

Along with his parents, Marion was preceded in death by his son: Christopher Thornton (October 8, 1977); two sisters and one brother.  

Marion was a graduate of Indianola High School. He was employed at Rogers Cartage as a diesel mechanic for 30 years before retiring. Marion attended the Cayuga Christian Church. Marion enjoyed going to Wanda’s Kitchen in Georgetown to visit with his friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. 

A memorial service took place April 6 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga. Ashton Stewart officiated. 

Inurnment of cremains will be held at a later date at Georgetown Cemetery.
