He was born April 11, 1941, in Perrysville, the son of Ellis and Dorothy (Lewis) Volkel.

He was married to Hildred Uplinger on August 8, 1959. She will miss him, and they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August.

Curtis will be deeply missed by his daughter, Lori (Joseph J.) Burton of Perrysville; his son, Len (Jeanne) Volkel of Alabama; his grandchildren, Ashleigh (David) Richards of Alabama, Joseph L. (Megan) Burton of Perrysville, Sarah Burton of Perrysville; and one step-granddaughter, Danielle Wright of Alabama; his three great-granddaughters, Kadence Kirby, Karleigh Kirby and Tessa Whichmann, all of Alabama; his brother, James (Linda) Vokel of Perrysville; and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Brian Volkel; his brother, Lowell Volkel; and his sister, Carolyn (Michael) Upperman.

Curtis had previously worked as a USPS carrier and for the State Highway Department, but he really enjoyed farming and working as a school custodian the most. He loved spending time with his loving family. He enjoyed discussing politics and tinkering in around the farm.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. At Curtis’ request, he will be accorded cremation rites.
