Charles Alvin McClain, 87, of Tilton, passed away (Aug. 2, 2019), at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville.

Service took place Aug. 7, at Kruger-Coan-Pape Funeral Home. Pastor Kevin Ziegler officiated. Honor guard by American Legion Post 210.

Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery.

Charles was born June 22, 1932, in Danville to Charles and Gladys (Gardiner) McClain.

He graduated from Danville High School in 1951, and was a U.S. Navy veteran. Charles worked for Allied Chemical for 33 years until his retirement.

Charles was a longtime member of Southside Church of Christ, where he was active in the choir. Charles was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for many years, and was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs.

He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Charles married Ethel Geneva Harrison in 1955, and had just celebrated 64 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel; children, Kathy (John) Liffick, Lori Carlson (Chuck Jordan), Charles “Dewey” (Lisa) McClain, Kenneth “Wayne” McClain, Orville McClain; son-in-law, David May; grandchildren, Katie May, Jennifer Clark, Jonathan May, Miranda Rendon, Jesse Herron, Erin Barnes, Jordan Harvey, Nicholas Carlson, Jean Mecke, Jac Carlson, Alicia McClain, Ryan McClain, Nakita McClain, Raymond McClain, Rebecca Maxwell, Sara McClain, Charles McClain; sisters, Nora Hible, Virgie Ross, Cora Bales and Betty Rosdail; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Judy May; sisters, Theresa Hansbrough, Minnie Downing, Oma Sempsrott; brother Oscar McClain.
