Vermilion County’s financial resources director announced her candidacy Monday for county auditor.
Erika Briggs, a lifelong county resident who was hired to her current position 2017, said she plans to seek the Republican nomination for auditor in the March primary.
Republican Bill Wright currently holds the auditor’s office.
Briggs said in her announcement that she believes it’s the right time for people of her generation to step up into leadership roles in the county.
“The auditor’s position is an exciting opportunity, and my professional credentials are well-suited to taking on this role,” said Briggs, who graduated magna cum laude from Indiana State University in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minor in forensic accounting.
Before being hired by the county, she worked in accounting at Fiberteq Industries. In her current position, she has been county board Chairman Larry Baughn’s chief adviser on fiscal policy and has been involved in creating departmental budgets with department heads and elected officials.
