The North American Country Music Association International recently awarded Wayne Acton of Collison two songwriting awards.

His song entitled “The Darker the Night” won the 2019 songwriter of the year in adult traditional gospel. He also won the most promising songwriter of the year in adult traditional country for the song “Take My Hand.”

The awards took place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in March. Acton had also received songwriting awards in 2016, 2017 and 2018 for other songs.

He sings with the local band, “Yesterday’s Country” and the “C4A Country Music Ensemble.”

Acton and his wife, Deanna reside in Collison and Wayne organizes the “Collison Country” Summer Music Series.

The series will feature shows on the last Wednesday of the Month from May through September in the Masonic Park in Collison.  This year’s series will start on May 29 with “Marvin Lee Country Opry.”

Those attending are asked to bring their own lawn chairs. The shows are free with food available.

A freewill donation is accepted for Masonic projects such as supporting local school music programs. The Collison Masonic Lodge #714 has hosted the shows for the past eight years.
