Former Danville star homers for Astros

Former News-Gazette All-Area Player of the Year Chuckie Robinson is making the most of his spring training opportunity with the Houston Astros.

The former Danville High star hit a three-run home run against the Mets on Sunday, February 24.

The 24-year-old catcher was player of the year in 2012. He went on to play college baseball at Southern Miss.

Robinson was drafted in the 21st round of the 2016 MLB draft.

Robinson hit .238 in the Carolina League for the Buies Creek Astros in 75 games last season. He had seven home runs and 30 RBIs. He is a non-roster invitee to the Astros’ spring training.
