Juanita Wendt to receive award for 50th anniversary in KOPS organization

Mrs. Juanita Wendt joined the TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) IL 315 Danville Club on February 14, 1968.

This group originally met in at The Sears Center at Garfield Park (where the Boys and Girls’ Club building is today). The group then met in the basement of Pape’s Funeral Home for 33 years. It moved a couple more times in before being hosted at the Vermilion Heights Christian Church as it is today.

Juanita eventually became a member of KOPS (Keep Pounds Off Sensibly) on November 13, 1968.

Juanita served the TOPS Organization as an officer in her club and as area captain for 21 years.

As part of her responsibilities, Juanita would travel with TOPS Coordinator, Bette Rae Pirie visiting different chapters, installing officers, and many events throughout the year. Juanita and Bette visited 27 states before, during and after becoming Area Captain.

Juanita recently received an unofficial 50-year TOPS Award certificate and plaque at the TOPS Fall Rally Hoedown on November 10th in Danville. TOPS Coordinator, Sharon Dines presented this award to her.

She will receive her official award at the Area Recognition Days in April at the Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham.

She plans to also attend the International Recognition Days in Portland, Oregon in July where she will be honored once again.
