Danville library, Rossville store teaming up to ensure prom dresses for all

For many young people, prom is rite of passage. But for some, buying a fancy dress is out of reach.

That’s why the Danville Public Library is hosting its first “Say Yes to the Prom Dress” event — to provide local students with a dress at no cost.


Art League offering watercolor workshop

The Danville Art League is offering a watercolor workshop with artist, Spencer Meagher.

Spencer travels all over the country attending competitions and shows, as well as teaching workshops. Spencer is a Plein Air and studio artist who works in watercolor, oil and acrylic. When he is not traveling, he works out of his studio in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.


Morey Chapel Gospel Sing

Morey Chapel will be kicking off their 2019 gospel sings welcoming Kenny Melton and his daughter McKenna, from Franklin, Indiana.  This will be McKenna’s first time joining her father at Morey Chapel.

They welcome all to join them for an uplifting evening of praise and worship. 


Woodlawn Cemetery requests decoration removal

All winter decorations will be removed from Woodlawn Cemetery on March 30, If someone wishes to save any items, please remove them before that date.

Volunteers are welcome to help with the annual spring workday on March 30, starting at 9 a.m. For more information, call 217-284-3480.


Danville Christian Women Connection

The Danville Christian Women’s Connection will be hosting their monthly luncheon at the Danville Boat Club on March 27 from 12-2 p.m.

The theme will be “Erin Go Bragh!” It will feature speaker Bess Steller on “There is no place like home,: Bethany Hager of the Women’s Care Clinic and music by Scott Inman.

Forest Glen hosting Maple Syrup Open House March 17

The Annual Maple Syrup Open House, hosted by the Vermilion County Conservation District, will take place in the Pioneer Homestead Area on March 17th, at Forest Glen Preserve.

The Sugar Bush, the building where maple syrup is made, as well as the Pioneer Cabin, will be open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. CST. 


Oakwood Police vs. Oakwood Grade School dodgeball game

The students of Oakwood Grade School after school program have challenged the Oakwood Police Department to a game of dodgeball and they have accepted.

The game will take place at Oakwood Grade School on March 19th at 4:30 PM.  


Village of Oakwood sponsoring program on cyber scams

The Village of Oakwood will be sponsoring a program meant to educate the public on how to be “Scam Smart.”

The program will take place on March 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Oakwood Emergency Rescue Building at 102 Lake Bluff Dr. in Oakwood.


Gregory’s Academy of the Arts holding auditions for 2019 shows

Gregory’s Academy of the Arts, Vermilion County’s Educational Performing Arts Organization will be casting the 2019 Comedy Hour and roles in future productions of A Christmas Carol.


Master Gardeners present ‘How to tap maple trees and make maple syrup and candy’

These cold winter days can bring on cabin fever. Maybe it’s time to think about outdoor activities the family can do together. Tapping maple trees is an early spring hobby that can be fun and educational and does not require acres of land or specialized equipment.
