A history of Veterans Day

Known as “The Great War”, World War I had been the first time that world powers were all involved in the same war at the same time. It officially ended on November 11, 1918, at 11 am, when the treaty was signed at Versailles, France.

Farm Bureau to celebrate 100th anniversary at meeting

Vermilion County Farm Bureau will be celebrating a century of service to agriculture and the family farm at the organization’s 100th Annual Meeting.

The meeting will be held November 27 at the Beef House Banquet Center near Covington. 

Vance Township Library hosting BINGO

Vance Township Library will be hosting another BINGO at the Fairmount Fire Station on Nov. 17 from 1 - 4 p.m.

Cookies, tea, coffee, and cider will be served.  No fee, but  donations for the library will be accepted.

Medicare Part D coverage review for Georgetown Township residents

Georgetown Township would like to help all of our citizens that are on Medicare Part D to review their prescription coverage.

It is a good idea to check coverage every year with the new formulary that has arrived from your current provider.

Art on display at Kennekuk Environmental Education Center

A collection of over 20 art pieces created by Julie Colby, Associate Director of the Vermilion County Conservation Foundation, are currently on display at the Kennekuk Environmental Education Center for the next several months.

GRHS hosting Veteran's Day celebration

Georgetown-Ridge Farm High School will be having a Veterans Day assembly November 12, to celebrate and recognize local veterans.

Community members are invited to attend the program, which will start with coffee and donuts at 8:15 a.m. followed by the assembly at 9. 

Longview Bank donate bank building to Chrisman Christian Church

The Longview Bank and Trust has donated their former Chrisman bank building to the Chrisman Christian Church.  

Health screenings at Horizon Health

Leighsa Cornwell, RN, BS, community health and disease management coordinator at Horizon Health, will provide blood pressure, blood sugar, and lipid panel (HDL, LDL, and triglycerides) screenings.

The screenings will take place November 13, from 7-9 am.

St. Mary's hosting Christmas Bazaar

St. Mary Church of Westville, IL is hosting their annual Christmas Bazaar on November 17 in the gym/parish center from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. 

They will be serving homemade cinnamon rolls at breakfast time.

Westville Library hosting Unicorn Dreams Tea Party

The Unicorn Dreams Tea Party will be held at the Westville Public Library on November 10 at 10 AM.  

Children six and up along with an adult are invited to attend and listen to a unicorn story while enjoying their “tea”. 

There will also be a craft and other unicorn themed activities.
