Fall Coloring Contest Winners

The following are the results of the coloring contest from the September 12 edition of the Independent News.

The winners of the contest will receive $10 and the second place winners will receive $5.

The following individuals are the winners in their age group.


Georgetown United Methodist Community Luncheon

The September Community Luncheon will be served at the Georgetown United Methodist Church from 11 am - 12:30 pm on September 29th.

This month’s menu is ideal for moving forward into the fall season; it will include Pork Loin, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Beans, Fruit and Dessert.

Catlin Historical Museum hosting annual Fall Dinner

The Catlin Historical Society will be hosting their annual Museum Fall Dinner on October 7. 

Meals will be served on the museum grounds from 11 AM - 2 PM.  

Westville Library holding book sale

The Westville Public Library will have a book sale on September 28 from 10 AM - 5:30 PM. 

There is all new non-fiction on the shelves in both children’s and adults. 

Westville Library hosting Afternoon at the Movies

The next Wednesday Afternoon at the Movies at the Westville Public Library will be October 3 at 2 PM. 

The film will tell the real-life story of a thwarted terrorist attack on the 15:17 train bound for Paris—an attempt prevented by three courageous young Americans traveling through Europe.

Danville K of C holding benefit for two-year old

There will be a benefit for two-year-old Gracie Nelk who was recently diagnosed with leukemia at the Knights Of Columbus in Danville on October 7th.   

The event starts at noon and goes until 6pm. 

There is no cover charge, they just ask for a donation.

This benefit is also child friendly.

Free household hazardous waste collection at DACC

Residents will have an opportunity to get rid of household hazardous wastes from their garages and basements at a free collection event from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. on September 29 at Danville Area Community College.

Liberty Church Jam Sing

The Liberty Church gospel jam session will be held September 28.

The carry-in dinner will be served at 6 p.m. so bring along a covered dish. It’s a great place to try out new recipes on a willing crowd. 

Liberty is located five and a half miles east of Georgetown on Mill Rd.

Kiwanis Honeybee Committee announces Downtown Festival Plans

Plans for the Kiwanis-sponsored Honeybee Festival downtown events are currently being finalized.  This year’s expanded entertainment has been finalized.

The local event has become an excellent source of quality free musical entertainment.

Danville Library celebrating 'Talk Like a Pirate Day'

September 27: In honor of “Talk Like a Pirate Day,” the Teen Book Challenge will focus on Pirates of Penzance! Read the first act, listen to songs from the musical and explore Mango languages to learn to speak pirate! This program starts at 5 p.m. in the second floor conference room. For teens, ages 12-18.
