Church bell stolen from Vermilion Heights Christian Church

The old church bell at Vermilion Heights Christian Church was stolen from church property January 17.

 The bell is about one and half feet wide and has a round handle on the side to tilt and ring the bell. The bell is cast iron with a metallic silver paint on it.

“It’s our family heirloom.” Said Pastor Rod Godley. 


Vermilion County Board announce plans for 2018

2018 promises to be a big year for Vermilion County. 

The start of the calendar year finds the county in the middle of 3 big project implementations.


Six-year-old to donate hair

Six-year-old Sophia Wright is having her hair cut for the the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program and is asking the community to help with her donation.

Sophia is donating her hair on February 5th at Kevin & Co. in Danville, at 3607 N Vermilion St. 


Local school districts receive grants for libraries

State Representative Chad Hays (R-Catlin) announced on Jan. 10 that $7,877 in school library grant money is on its way to five school districts located in the 104th Legislative House District.


Eastern Illinois Foodbank announces good giveaway in Ridge Farm

Eastern Illinois Foodbank will distribute a truckload of food to hungry area families.

The distribution will be held at Ridge Farm Fire Protection District (16 W Woodyard Avenue) on Jan. 27 from 10am – 11:30am.  All Vermilion County residents who meet income eligibility criteria are welcome.


Christmas lighting contest winners awarded

During their first monthly meeting of the new year, members of the Westville village council watched as Trustee Darin Troglia and Aubrey Jenkins awarded the cash prizes and plaques for the 2017 Westville Outdoor Christmas Lighting Contest.


Tilton to seek loan for bridge and street repair

Tilton trustees have taken preliminary steps to do some needed maintenance to the G Street Bridge and to resurface a portion of the Catlin/Tilton Road.

Danville Area Community College will host the 40th annual Regional Academic Challenge competition, Tuesday, January 30. 


Danville Light Opera presents 'Curtains'

DLO Musical Theatre’s upcoming production is the Tony-nominated murder mystery musical Curtains, February 16 and 17 at 7:30 p.m., and February 18 at 2 p.m. at the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium at Danville High School.


Beekeping classes offered in Fairmount

Registration is now open for 2018 beekeeping workshops at the training center of Long Lane Honey Bee Farms, located at 14556 North 1020 East in Fairmount.

The classes are taught by David Burns, who is a certified master beekeeper with over 26 years of experience in beekeeping.
