First Church of Christ Food Pantry ready to help those in need this holiday season and beyond

One in eight people in America struggles with hunger.

“It breaks our hearts to think of anyone going hungry.” Linda Cook spoke softly. “That is why we at First Church of Christ in Georgetown have our Food Pantry.”


Vermillion County Community Foundation receives matching grant

Vermillion County Community Foundation has received a grant of $500,000 as part of Lilly Endowment Inc.’s seventh phase of its Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow (GIFT) initiative.  With GIFT VII, the Endowment is making up to $125 million available to help Indiana community foundations strengthen the towns, cities and counties they serve.


Paris Order of the Eastern Star donates books to local schools

The Paris Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Illinois Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star donated 104 books to Edgar County Schools this year. 

The schools that benefited from this were Shiloh Elementary, Chrisman High School, Crestwood, and Memorial School.


Santas Anonymous

The 42nd consecutive year of the Westville Sanas Anonymous is well underway, and Santa’s elves are in need of the community’s help.

Toy collection barrels have been placed in the following locations:


Danville Art League hosting artists reception

An artists reception and holiday party will be held December 15 from 2-4 p.m. at the Paul Brumaghim gallery at the Danville Art League. Stop by for some holiday refreshments and visit with our featured artist, Spencer Meagher.

His artwork is for sale and would make unique holiday gifts for family and friends.


North Vermillion functional life skills class makes pillows

The North Vermillion High School Functional Life Skills class and students from Mr. Wagoner’s art class had the chance to give back to others by stuffing pillows. 

Trudy Longest visited on November 30 bringing heart shaped pillows to donate to Peyton Manning Hospital. 


Trinity United Church of Christ hosting Longest Night service

“The Longest Night” service, held December 19th, at 6:30 pm, provides a safe place for people in the community to come, gather, and find comfort and consolation together.

All are welcome to come and join them for a time of special music, candle lighting, scripture, reflection, silence, and prayer.


Danville Art League hosting fundraiser

The Danville Art League is selling Schermer pecans as a fundraiser again this year.

The holidays are rapidly approaching and these pecans are wonderful for baking and gift giving.


Westville Depot hosting bake sale

The Westville Depot will host its annual bake sale for 2018 on December 15, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. 

In addition to the delicious baked goods, there will be a 50/50 drawing, and a visit from Santa from 11-12.  

Donations for the bake sale are welcomed and very much appreciated. 


November NVJHS Falcon Stars

The following students were named the North Vermilion Junior High School Falcon Stars in the month of November:
