On a warm summer night at the Georgetown Fairgrounds, the crowd gathered in the grandstands eagerly awaiting the crowning of the Georgetown Fair Queen.


Heart for Life benefit to help two-year old

This year’s Heart for Life Benefit and WOP Memorial Ride will take place on August 18 at the Danville Knights of Columbus.

This year’s main recipient is Gracie Knelk, a 2 year old battling Leukemia. Several other families are helped throughout the year also.


County War Museum reaches capital campaign goal

The Vermilion County War Museum has reached its first capital campaign fundraising goal.

In October of 2017 the Vermilion County War Museum launched its first ever Capital Campaign Initiative, on August 3 that goal was reached. 


New drug disposal boxes available at OSF HealthCare hospitals in Urbana and Danville

OSF HealthCare is leading the way in helping reduce the misuse of prescription medications by installing safe, secure disposal boxes for the public at OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana and OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville.


Vermilion County Animal Shelter hosting ‘Showtime at the Shelter’ fundraiser

The Vermilion County Animal Shelter Foundation will be hosting “Showtime at the Shelter” a fundraiser for the shelter on August 25.

Attendees can enjoy local vendors, bid on the many silent auction items, take part in children’s activities and dog demonstrations, while supporting a good cause.


Registration and voting aids available to the elderly and the handicapped

Vermilion County residents who, due to a disability, are unable to appear in person to register to vote may contact the County Clerk’s Voter Registration Hotline at 217-554-1915 for assistance.

“The office can arrange for in-home registration services,” County Clerk Cathy Jenkins said. 


CASA looking for volunteers

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Vermilion and Edgar County are looking for volunteers.

They are looking for volunteers over the age of 21 to help children in their community.

Woodlawn Cemetery hosting meeting

Woodlawn Cemetery of Indianola will hold its annual meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 26 at 120 Wild Rose Ave. in Indianola.

Two trustees will be elected.

All lot owners are welcome to attend.

The Saint Mary’s Parish Nurses have scheduled a Blood Drive on August 19th from 9-11:30 a.m. in the parish hall.
